125 Board filings in three years, and the ordinary words Take-Two says are its own

Two public databases tell the story: TTABVUE, where every opposition and extension request is logged, and TSDR, where every registration's status lives. Both are linked on every row below so you can check them yourself.

At the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board

A party-name search of TTABVUE for "Take-Two Interactive" on November 2, 2026 returns 125 entries filed between September 25, 2023 and October 8, 2026: 39 oppositions and 86 requests for an extension of time to oppose. In all 125, Take-Two is the opposer or potential opposer. Not one is a case brought against Take-Two. Source: TTABVUE party search

An extension request is not a lawsuit. It is a notice that a company is considering one, and it usually arrives with a letter. Many applicants settle, narrow, or abandon at that stage, which is why the 39 oppositions understate the pressure the 86 extensions represent.

Each row links to its TTABVUE record. Status as shown there on Nov 2, 2026; pending matters may have moved since. "R (device)" means a stylized letter R, which Take-Two polices on the strength of its own R-star registrations.

The words on the register

These are live U.S. registrations owned by Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., each checked against the USPTO's status page on November 2, 2026. The list is illustrative, not complete; it leaves out the game titles nobody would call ordinary words.

Registration numbers link to TSDR. A registration covers specific goods or services, not the word in general; the question this site raises is how those registrations are used against people selling unrelated things.

The ROCKSTAR star mark: maintenance filed October 29

Reg. No. 6,187,097 (ROCKSTAR with the star device) registered November 3, 2020, which made its first Section 8 declaration of continued use due by November 3, 2026. TSDR shows "TEAS SECTION 8 & 15 RECEIVED" on October 29, 2026. The declaration has not yet been examined and the specimen had not posted when this page was written. Source: USPTO TSDR, Reg. No. 6,187,097

Why it matters: a Section 8 declaration is sworn. The registrant attests that the mark is in use in commerce on the goods listed, and attaches a specimen showing it. Those sworn statements are what a petition to cancel tests. The book's chapters on counterclaims and petitions to cancel explain the standards, including the Federal Circuit's ruling in Great Concepts, LLC v. Chutter, Inc. that fraud in a maintenance filing can still be challenged.

What this page does not claim

  • It does not say any Take-Two registration is invalid. That is for the Board or a court, on a record.
  • It does not say every opposition on the list was wrong. Some marks on the list may well have been confusingly similar to Take-Two's.
  • It does say the pattern is wide, that it reaches single letters and dictionary words, and that in the one case this site's publisher knows from the inside, Take-Two pleaded thirty marks and then withdrew without explanation.
